How to Seal a Flat Top Roof
- 1). Inspect the roof to see if any pieces of felt have been pulled up or any other part of the roof is sticking up. Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the underside of the felt and press back down into place any pieces that are sticking up.
- 2). Sweep any dust and debris from the roof into a dust pan and remove it. Pick up any larger pieces of felt or roofing tar that may be in the way and throw them out.
- 3). Measure the size of the roof to determine how much roof sealer will be needed. Multiply the length by the width to determine the total square footage of the roof.
- 4). Pour out the roof coating beginning in the farthest corner of the roof. Spread out the coating evenly with a large paint roller and an extension pole. Continue spreading the coating, working from left to right and from one side of the roof to the other.
- 5). Spread out the coating in a smooth, even pattern and constantly check to make sure it is spreading out evenly across the entire roof. Work until you reach the end of the roof. Allow the roof a few hours to properly dry and inspect the area to make sure everything has been properly installed and the roof is sealed correctly.
