Places to Vacation in February

11

    Koh Samui in Thailand

    • One of the largest islands in Thailand, Koh Samui, is known for its turquoise blue seas and sunny beaches covered in soft white sand. Koh Samui is fairly easy to travel to, being only an hour away from Bangkok by air, but an equally scenic and fun way is to travel by ferry from the port city of Surat Thani, which takes about 90 minutes. The island itself has several bays and coves that make snorkeling a wonderful experience, in addition to many other activities such as watersports, shopping, jungle trekking, elephant safaris and village visits. Nightlife activities include bars, discotheques, and traditional Thai dance performances and musicals. High season is from December to February, which is the coolest time of year for the island.

    Chamonix in France

    • Blessed with a varied selection of accommodation types, from budget hostels to luxury chalets, Chamonix is a great choice for travelers without breaking the bank. Access to ski runs is also easy and include gondolas and chairlifts that service ski areas such as the Vallee Blanche, or for the very skilled, the Grand Montets. For non-skiers, there are other outdoor activities, including mountain climbing, glacier sightseeing, caving or hang gliding. When night falls, clubbers seek out the drinking holes on the Rue des Moulins and Rue Paccard. In February, Chamonix celebrates winter with the Winter Sessions Concert, the Les Degivres (Snow Jam Festival), and an array of winter sports competitions. Chamonix can be reached via Italy or France, either by driving through tunnels or taking a train.

    Singapore Cruises (Gems of Asia)

    • Rather than choosing a single place to vacation, opting to go with a cruise gives the traveler more than one destination to visit. Using the vibrant city of Singapore as the starting point, hundreds of cruises are available to those who wish to travel the sea. Royal Caribbean International, for example, has a ship equipped with a nine-hole miniature golf course, rock-climbing walls, casinos, solariums and swimming pools. Kids can spend time at the Adventure Ocean center while their parents may choose to relax in the day spa. The Gems of Asia cruise stops at ports in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and lasts five nights. Costs include all accommodation on the ship, ocean transport, the majority of meals and beverages as well as entertainment.
