Are You Long Sighted Or Short Sighted?
Do you know the difference between long-sightedness and shortsightedness? There is a difference if you didn't know and it can be quite confusing for the laymen to distinguish between who is and not.
It is simple for shortsighted people.
They need glasses to see objects at far distances.
For example watching television, going to the cinema and driving.
For these tasks either spectacles or contact lenses are needed to resolve the detail at distance.
However for longsighted people it is a little bit more complicated.
You see technically this would the converse to shortsightedness and longsighted people would only require spectacles for close work like reading and computer work.
But if they have a strong prescription they may need to wear the correcting for distances, this is particularly the case for children, where the spectacles may also correct a squint.
Talking about squints, it is commonly occurred in longsighted children and you may notice that without correction one of the eyes may have a propensity to turn in.
So wearing glasses preferably on a full time basis especially if under the age of 9 is advisable to help the eyes adapt.
Also occlusion therapy where the 'good' eye is covered to help the eye with the squint focus properly is an effective measure between the ages of 4 -8 years of age.
This is where the term lazy eye lies so treatment here is essential this being a possibility.
A common belief is that once you start to wear spectacles your eyes will get worse, but i don't believe this to be the case.
In my opinion and there isn't enough research either way is that if your eyes are going to get worse, they will do so regardless of whether you do wear your spectacles.
