What You Need To Know About Commercial Models Before You Venture In The Business

13
Commercial models are models that appear on local or national print advertisements or television shows, in catalogs, work in local fashion shows and trade shows and similar kinds of work. Their pay is never in huge fees (although pay can be very good indeed); national recognition or lucrative national advertisement contracts, but they are the backbone of the modeling industry. Professional models, which tend to be tall, slim and beautiful in a more mainstream way, are preferred by fashion industries. Professional models are asked to play roles in pictures: €young mom€, €active retiree€, €Doctor€, €executive€, and they look like idealized versions of these roles. In most of the markets we have surveyed the hardest demand for an agent to fill is for middle-aged men!

Very few models make a living at it; they do on an occasional basis while they do something else "full time". The requirements for being a commercial model are very different from being a fashion model. Models can be older, shorter, heavier and need not be pretty or beautiful - "interesting" often will get work, and €generic good looks€ is the most common look required. You need to have an attractive face, good figure and the average female model in this category is about 5 feet 6 inches tall. Things that help a model are acting ability, an outgoing personality, easy availability for jobs, and good self-presentation skills. The great majority of commercial jobs are booked through agencies, except for those that are given to friends or members of the client's family.

Requirements for models vary from product to product making it fairly flexible. The good news is that you can have a very ordinary face and still be a professional model. To be a commercial model you need to bring out the salesperson in you. Practice looks that sell if you want to pursue professional modeling as your career. The pay varies but sometimes can be very lucrative so once you feel you have what it takes you should actually go for it. As a commercial model you may be asked to model anything from jewelry, cars, trucks, or anything else the client is looking to sell. Remember, in mainstream modeling, you are the one selling the product with your looks and actions. Sometimes in professional modeling you won't even see your whole body or face in the final print. The client may decide she just wants your foot/teeth/hair etc. in the advertisement. So if you are preparing to be a commercial model you all you need to do is brace it.
