      Go to the nearest courthouse. The U.S. Marshals website can tell you where your local courts are. In the city of Billings, the courthouse is on 26th Street. In Great Falls, the courthouse is on Central Avenue West. In Helena, the courthouse is on Front Street. At the courthouse you can get the documents you need to file for divorce.

      Pick up the documents that you will need to get divorced. The documents that you need include the petition for dissolution of marriage without children or a petition for dissolution of marriage with children. You need a joint petition of divorce if you and your spouse agree on the divorce. A joint petition will normally go through quicker than a one-sided petition. You can also pick up a waiver form to file if you cannot afford the cost of filing the divorce. You will also need to pick up a financial affidavit so that you can attach it to your divorce forms. The financial affidavit is so that the court can know how to separate all your marital assets.

This is so that the Montana courts can recognize your forms if they get separated. Make sure to fill out all the information and do not leave anything blank. Write "not applicable" on the form if the question does not pertain to you. You can also fill out the forms electronically on the Montana government website. The website will let you save your work on your computer and send the divorce paperwork electronically.
