How to Manage Anxiety - 6 Tips to Control Anxiety

15
Some stressful situations can bring on shortness of breath, sweating and rapid heartbeat.
Some people mistake these symptoms as having a heart attack when in fact they are having an anxiety attack.
Learning how to manage anxiety is the first step to controlling it.
Anxiety is defined as an intense reaction to a frightening situation.
A stranger following you down the street at night will cause an adrenalin rush, your senses will become heightened, palms sweating, a rapid heartbeat and fearful anxious feelings.
This is a normal response called the fight or flight reaction.
When you start to become overstressed and experience anxiety attacks from minor situations and they become more numerous - this is not normal.
If you are plagued with anxiety attacks on a frequent basis, there are a number of things you can do to keep them in check.
1.
Seek professional help.
Self diagnosis can be dangerous.
A qualified pyschologist will help you understand what is happening to you and provide you with techniques and possibly medication to help control your anxiety attacks.
2.
Exercise regularly.
During exercise your brain receives more oxygen which increases focus.
This by itself may help you think more clearly during stressful situations and reduce anxiety attacks.
3.
Always try to get enough sleep.
The more rest you get, the better your body is able to repair itself.
4.
Learn how to meditate.
Taking several minutes a day to control your breathing and to clear your mind of daily stresses is a great way to reduce anxiety.
5.
Don't drink alcohol.
Turning to alcohol every time you are stressed can lead to dependency.
The side affects of alcohol can actually amplify anxious feelings and should be avoided.
6.
Do something you like doing.
Go skiing, listen to music or read a good book.
Just do something you enjoy.
Relaxing activities will help reduce the stresses of daily life and ultimately reduce anxiety.
Anxiety is a normal part of life.
However, it doesn't have to control your life.
