Every day many tourists visit the area of Cornwall. It is a fantastic destination to take a holiday to for several reasons. This area is great for relaxation and it also has a lot of different options for site seeing. One popular venue to check out when you are in Cornwall is the Antony House. Many say that it is a must see attraction when you are in Cornwall.

History Of The House

The Antony House is the name that was given to a house that originated from the early 18th century. Sir William Carew built this house during the years 1711 and 1721. However, it is assumed that his family probably owned the estate since the mid-1500s. After construction was finished on the house, it served as the primary residence for Sir William Carew's family. In addition to the house, beautiful formal gardens were landscaped on the property. This house is located between the towns of Torpoint and the village of Antony. Approximately 50 years ago, the family gave care of the house and the gardens to the national trust because they could no longer reside on the property. And today it still stands and it listed as a Grade I building.

Grounds Of The Property

One of the most amazing aspects to this property is the grounds that still remain today. They have been immaculately cared for. A Georgian designer named Humphry Repton landscaped them. When you visit the grounds you will be able to witness the beautiful formal gardens that contain a "National Collection of Day Lillies". In addition, there are also yew hedges and topiaries that add to the formal feel of the garden. Many love to walk through the gardens and admit that they really are very grand in sight. Also on the property are incredible trees. These trees make up a woodland garden that you can walk through when you are visiting the area.

Inside The Estate

In addition, while you are at the house, you must go inside as well. People love to see the amazing portraits on the wall of this house. In particular, there is a unique portrait of Charles 1 of England at his trial. And besides the furniture, there are also great collections of fine furniture that will definitely be impressive to see. You will notice textiles and furnishings that you have never seen before. It will be a rewarding and exciting experience.
