How to Make Wedding Table Cloths
- 1). Measure one of the tables. To do this, you will need to use the cloth measuring tape and measure the diameter, or the top of the table from one side to the other. Make sure that you are measuring across the middle of the top of the table. Write down the diameter in a notebook or on a piece of paper. Now, measure from the top of the table down to the floor on side of the table. Double this number and write it down as well. Total the numbers measured and add about an inch to allow for hemming room.
- 2). Purchase the fabric you want for your tablecloths. Most couples usually have a theme, so it is best to go with the theme of the wedding. If the wedding is formal, or more traditional, a white, ivory or light colored cloth is appropriate. You will have to measure a table before you purchase the fabric. If all the tables are the same size, you just have to measure that one table, and multiply the amount of fabric you need by the number of tables in the room. If the fabric you are purchasing is not wide enough to fit over the top of the table, you will have to buy double the fabric.
- 3). Take some fabric and cut the appropriate length. This will be the measurement from one side of the table, across the top, and over to the floor on the other side. Now, your goal is to create a piece a fabric that is a square shape. If the table shows when this piece is place across the table, you will have to sew fabric on each side of the piece that is too narrow.
- 4). Measure and cut more fabric that matches the length needed for the table. This should match the first piece already cut. You will then, have to cut this new piece in half, lengthwise and sew each new piece onto one side of the first piece of fabric. To get an even cut, take the tape measure and lay it across the fabric at the bottom and make a light pencil mark half-way across. Do the same at the top, then line up the lines and make a very light line with your pencil or fabric marking tool. Cut in half.
- 5). Pin the pieces together using sewing pins, then sew the two new pieces on either side of the first piece of fabric cut.
- 6). Keep in mind that you should have a square that will fit across the table and fall appropriately on all sides. If not, you will have to repeat measuring, cutting and sewing fabric onto each side until you have a big enough square.
- 7). Fold the square in half hot dog style, or lengthwise. Then fold it again, this time hamburger style, or width wise. Take your tape measure and measure from the folded corner to a little below the center of the newly folded square. Move the tape measure from one corner to another, leaving one end still on the folded corner. This will create a half circle effect. Lightly mark this semi-circle with your marking tool.
- 8). Cut along this line, and sew the ends into a hem to prevent fraying. You now have a beautiful, round tablecloth.
