How to Use a Guitar Chord Chart
- 1). Read the chart from left to right, where the far left line represents the sixth string (low E) with each consecutive line symbolizing a string.
- 2). Orient your fingers in accordance with the dots that appear on the chart. Each dot represents where you should fret the string. The chart itself may not specify which fingers to use, but try different arrangements since some orientations are easier than others. A number appearing to the right of the chart designates the location of the chord on the fretboard.
- 3). Locate any circles that appear above the chart itself. These empty dots mean that the string should be left open to ring out unfretted in the chord.
- 4). Pluck each string to ensure that you are fretting everything correctly. Practice strumming all strings simultaneously once you have mastered the finger position.
