Make Your Mark on Your Wedding

14
Your wedding day should say a lot about you.
So make it personal in every way you can.
Choose daffodils because they are bright and breezy and you love their smell rather than the lilies the florist recommends.
Have a purple dress if you like purple and forget tradition.
If you want an Elvis number played at the ceremony and if it is allowed than go for it rather than the wedding march...
Put your own stamp on your own wedding.
A wedding is about two people and nobody else should interfere.
Even if parents are paying for it they should respect the fact that the couple's wishes are paramount.
It may not be the wedding they would choose but so what? They are not getting married.
It all comes down to what makes people comfortable.
A couple who eat their meals on trays in front of the telly may not want their wedding meal in a five star hotel where they can't even manage the cutlery.
A couple who use fish knives when dining alone may find it inappropriate to eat more casually and use paper napkins.
More important differences can occur when the couple come from two different nationalities or religious backgrounds.
The Catholic may want to be married in church, the Jew may want to break glasses in the ceremony.
An Indian may Want a three day wedding while his partner may choose a quick in and out affair.
Getting over these difficulties calls for tact, diplomacy and forward planning.
The couple must decide what is intrinsically important to both of them.
Then they must consult with both families.
It is critical that they explain the background of the ceremonies and the traditions to each other.
Then together they can amalgamate the traditions that are important to both sides.
This calls for a lot of restraint and a lot of respect for other cultures and faiths.
It can add wonderful colour and excitement to the day when everyone agrees.
So if you want Bongo drums or bagpipes played at your wedding, go ahead.
If you would like to be green and cycle to the church freewheel all the way.
If you feel like making your vows in Gregorian chant that's fine.
It's your wedding, do it your way.
