Do You Want to Become a Phone Detective?

23
If you have had a phone call from a number that shows up on your screen and you did not recognize it, you are sure to want to know who's trying to call you.
How do you know who is calling you? It's not always easy to find out.
What you may need is some kind of phone detective! The Internet gives you the ability to play phone detective and search for just about anything you want by bringing up your favorite browser sch as Google or Yahoo and then typing in, in this case, the telephone number that called you.
In 90% of cases, almost instantly you will see displayed right before your eyes, the name and address of the calling party.
As you can imagine, this can be an invaluable tool to you in your phone detective mission of finding out more about the person calling your number.
Just consider the uses of this:
  • Perhaps your boyfriend or girlfriend is receiving calls from a number you never saw before, now you could find out fairly easily
  • Perhaps the number belongs to a collection agency- this way you will now know and then perhaps you write them to ask them not to call but to put all correspondence in writing
  • Maybe you need to make a product-return for warranty, and thus require the exact name and address of a company and all you know is their phone number
One of the great extensions of doing a phone detective lookup is that you will not only see the name and address of the calling party but you will get several pages of information containing other users' reviews of the company's product or service.
This can be an invaluable tool when you are in the market for a particular item.
Sometimes however, the Internet search does not return any information about the calling party and thus you phone detective efforts come to no avail.
Luckily however, there are a few companies that specialize in this, and for just a few dollars per search, you can get information on just about any number, especially mobile/cell numbers which typically will not come up on a simple Internet search.
This kind of paid search does have some additional advantages as well in your phone detective quest: For example, you can get:
  • Public records
  • Number in household
  • Possibly credit reports
Phone detective work and ease of conducting such a search, may also be used to your disadvantage, however.
For example, criminal elements simply by knowing your telephone number may be able to obtain your name and address for the sole purpose of identity theft.
So there you have the advantages and some disadvantages of phone detective and just how easily it may be performed with just the press of a button on your computer.
