The Evolution of Endocrinology: Plenary Lecture
The invitation to give this lecture suggested that it would be appropriate to take a broad look at the discipline of endocrinology, where it came from and its current state of development. Such an undertaking is timely because the discipline that we celebrate at this Congress, namely the concept that chemical messengers constitute one of the major physiological control systems, is a development of the twentieth century.
