How to Make No-Sew Neck Coolers

    • 1). Gather your materials. First you'll need a child's pair of tights. Children's tights are strong, yet flexible, and made to not itch against tender skin. You can choose the approximate length of your neck coolers by looking at the sizing on the back of the tight's package, and decide among young kids' or older kids' tights. You can even get adult tights, but these usually make exceptionally long neck coolers. Second, you'll need enough dried beans to almost fill a leg of the tights. You can get them bulk in grocery and health food stores. Any variety that's on sale will work: kidney beans, navy beans, etc., but the small to medium sizes feel less lumpy than the larger beans.

    • 2). Cut the legs off. The legs provide a container for two neck coolers.

    • 3). Fill with beans and tie shut. Fill a leg with beans just close enough to the top that you can tie it shut. Fill both if you want two neck coolers. Even if your neck cooler is just for one person, it's nice to have two so one is always cooling off in the freezer while you're wearing the other one.

    • 4). Store in the freezer until use. Put the neck coolers in a plastic bag in the freezer. When you need to cool off, wrap one of the neck coolers around the back of your neck, crossing over in the front.
