How to Make a Cowgirl Hat
- 1). Find a plain straw hat in your size.
- 2). Wrap a piece of your ribbon around the base of the hat where it meets the brim. While you can choose any type of ribbon you want, a red-and-white checkered pattern on the ribbon gives your straw hat a feminine, country look.
- 3). Cut the ribbon to size.
- 4). Point the glue container away from your body with the tip of the container at the base of the hat, just above the brim. Apply a bead of glue all the way around the hat at the base.
- 5). Apply the ribbon over the glue so it runs around the hat, sitting on top of the brim.
- 6). Stick a feather inside your ribbon while the glue is still wet. The glue will dry, holding the ribbon and the feather in place.
- 7). Embellish your plain hat with jewels. Apply a bead of glue to the back of your jewel, then stick the jewel to your hat. Because your straw hat has a rough texture, you may need to hold the jewel in place for a few seconds to ensure it sticks.
- 8). Add jewels to your straw hat to form a jeweled band at the base of the hat, or jewel the entire brim for a more glamorous look.
- 9). Gather long strands of faux suede. Take three strands, or three bunches of strands, and braid them together, forming a long braid.

Wrap the faux suede braid around the base of your hat. Secure the beginning and the end with glue, holding it until it sticks, and you've just turned a plain, boring hat into a cowgirl hat.
