Earning the Respect As Nursing Professionals

29
"Respect is earned", that is how the old saying goes.
Everyone needs respect but it cannot just be given.
One has to earn it.
As a nursing professional, it is an uphill climb to gain respect from the public.
It was not really an easy task to do because there are some obstacles that are in the way.
I am sure Florence Nightingale did not foresee that nurses would be portrayed differently in the media.
Nursing professionals are unfortunately stereotyped into people that are not worth of respect.
It is sometimes hard to overcome the prejudice of some people when it comes to the nursing field.
People tend to think that nurses are forced to be one.
They are not mainly to blame because they see it in media; they believe that it can be true.
It is unfortunate that when nurses are shown in television shows or movies, they usually are depicted as people who cannot really think on their own and are always absent-minded.
Imagine if this is true in real life, then our patients would have died.
Hopefully, the media would have a different uptake on how they portray nurses.
They have to realize that the nursing professionals work long and hard just to serve the patients.
They are part of the unsung heroes of the medical care industry.
They sacrifice a lot just to make sure that their patients are comfortable.
Nurses are not merely companions or assistants of doctors.
They can be movers and shakers of the industry as well because they are well versed in the ins and outs of the medical care system.
If given a chance, nurses can assume different roles for the improvement of patient care and hospital system.
There are already great improvements in the nursing profession throughout the decades.
Nurses strive hard to gain respect from the public and erase the image that the media often portray of them.
It is also proven that in the research made with several people, it is the nurses that they trust most.
This is not impossible because they know that nurses are people that you can rely on especially in times of sickness and calamities.
They are part of the team that will make sure that everyone will be taken cared of without any prejudice of sex, race and social status.
As we trudge along the future path, hopefully the nurses will earn more respect which they truly deserve.
