How to Convert a WMV to an FLV Open Source
- 1). Use Miro Video Converter. Miro is more than capable of converting the WMV file format to the FLV file format, as well as converting other types of videos to other file types. Once your WMV video is loaded into the Miro software, you just select "FLV" as your output and select the "Start" button to convert the file. Your new FLV file will be placed in the same directory as your old WMV file.
- 2). Use FFmpeg. FFmpeg is a multi-purpose utility, allowing you to create and convert virtually any audio or video computer file type that you can think of. Once you've loaded your WMV video file into FFmpeg, select "FLV" from the "Output Formats" section of the main window. You don't have to make any additional adjustments, but you can change things like which portion of a clip you're converting, what audio codec you're using and more using the appropriate boxes. To convert the file, simply click "OK."
- 3). Use HandBrake. HandBrake has versions available for both the Windows operating system and the Linux operating system. The output file types in HandBrake are called "Profiles." Once you've loaded your WMV video file into HandBrake, select the FLV "Profile" from the "Profiles" box on screen and click "Start" to convert your file.
