These one-day trips provide fishing gear, bait and helpful crews to help you catch halibut, which can grow quite large and put up a bit of a fight. Aurora Charters

• Based out of Seward and in operation since 1991, Aurora Charters provides separate fishing trips for halibut, salmon, rock fish and ling cod. Aurora has three boats in its fleet with both full- and half-day charters available. During the months of July and August, the company offers a combination package in which you fish for salmon, halibut and ling cod on the same trip. In addition to fishing, tourists can also take advantage of Aurora Charters' sightseeing tour of the spectacular Kenai Fjords National Park Glacier along with the wildlife in the area. All the halibut trips include fishing gear, bait and fish filleting. Crew members also provide advice and lend a hand to help tourists land the halibut.

ProFish-n-Sea Charters

• ProFish-n-Sea Charters of Seward provides one-day charters for both halibut and salmon fishing that depart in the morning and return by dinnertime. These charters, which fish the waters of Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska, commonly provide views of wildlife such as sea otters, porpoise, dolphins and killer, fin and humpback whales. Prior to the fishing trip, purchase items such as an Alaska fishing license, camera and film at the main office. Fishermen also need to bring their own rain gear, lunch and beverages. ProFish-n-Sea Charters has three captains with a vast amount of experience and promotes the fact that it does not fish the same spots day after day. It also has a crew that provides instructions, baits your hook and nets or gaffs the fish as they come on board.

D&M Charters

• D&M Charters, which departs from the town of Ninilchik, has provided halibut fishing charters for 20 years. Its experienced captains skipper 28-foot boats that have amenities such as heated cabin areas and private toilets. The boats provide all the fishing gear needed to enjoy a halibut fishing vacation. Guests on the boat need to bring items such as their own rain gear and lunch. Should the weather make it unfeasible to fish for halibut, D&M Charters provides an alternative to fishing for salmon and other native fish species in the Kenai or Kasilof rivers. Its season gets underway on May 1. D&M Charters promotes that they keep the length of time to reach the fishing grounds to a minimum in order to allow more time for fishing.
