Some recruits, who join the army, simply visit their recruiter, sign up for the military, get their ship date and then leave for basic training without an ounce of preparation.
This is a huge mistake for newbies because once they arrive to basic training it will be hard to adapt to military lifestyle.
Whatever you learn at basic can be learn at home and I want to share a few tips on how you can do that.
Let's get started.
Tip #1: Study the Rank Structure One of the first things a Soldier must learn is the identification of officers and enlisted personnel, including noncommissioned officers or (NCO).
It is important that you memorize the rank structure from Private to General of the Army before going to basic training because you may have to call everyone to attention when a drill sergeant enters the barracks or saluting an officer during formation.
Memorize it! Tip #2: Study the Army Time Soldiering is a 24-hour-a-day-job and the drill sergeants express it using 24 hours.
For example, noon is 1200 hours, 10:15 p.
m.
becomes 2215 hours, Army time.
Memorize it! Tip #3: Study the ABC's Learn to know your phonetic alphabets will help you communicate verbally in the field.
It is sometimes hard to distinguish a message over a radio transmission and the Army relies on the phonetic alphabet to clarify communications.
Any message that isn't understood correctly can have critical consequences and you can't think twice about whether that was "C Company" or "G Company" you heard.
The phonetic alphabet goes like this Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, etc.
Study and Memorize it! Tip #4: Study the 3 General Orders You should memorize the three general orders prior to shipping because at any time you encounter a drill sergeant, they can quiz you.
The three general orders are:
  1. I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post when properly relieved.
  2. I will obey my special orders and perform all of my duties in a military manner.
  3. I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions to the commander of the relief.
Memorize it! Tip #5: Don't Assume You Are in Great Shape Get off the couch! Physical Training is a huge part of basic training.
You may want to become physically conditioned and prepare to run for thirty minutes.
Do at least 45 push-ups (front-lean-and-rest position) and 45 sit-ups.
Your endurance and upper body will be challenged when you arrive to boot camp.
In summary, these are the five simple tips you can follow to become successful in army basic training.
