Travelling in Alabama While Working As an Au Pair.

This is a continuation of a series of articles on travelling around the world while working as an au pair. Some of the articles are semi-autobiographical in part and narrates the author's experience of working as an au pair while travelling around the world.

There are some interesting facts about Alabama that you need to know once you decide to move there. Unofficially, the city is called the €Yellowhammer State€, due to the bird with the same name that is the image of Alabama. Most of Americans know Alabama as the €Heart of Dixie€. Moreover, we have the Longleaf Pine as the state tree and Camellia as the state flower. But what is it really about Alabama that makes people go there?
Hot Spots in Alabama

Alabama is a pretty big state that has under its jurisdiction a lot of interesting places. Whether they are parks or buildings or other things like that, Alabama can be proud with several points of interest that you will love. For example, take a day off and visit Noccalula Falls Park and another one for James D. Martin Wildlife Park. What these parks hide is absolutely lovely and you will enjoy very much to spend time there. It is very relaxing and refreshing! You can find them in Gadsden. In Dothan you can visit the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, in Auburn you can go on a trail in Kiesel Park,

If you are a fan of festivals of all kinds, know that Dothan hosts the National Peanut Festival, which is not really what it sounds like, but it involves competitions and a lot of parades, which are very fun. And I forgot to mention the Jubilee City Fest in Montgomery, which is all about music and performances.

Montgomery has a tradition in the field of sports, where the Navistar LPGA Classic women's golf event is held and it has a great success and attendance.

In matters of museums, Alabama has many museums scattered all along the state. I just want to mention Landmark Park Agricultural Museum and Starlab Planetarium in Dothan, Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art and Auburn Area Community Theater situated in Auburn which are compulsory for you to see!

Study in Alabama!

Alabama has somewhat a tradition related to universities and colleges, meaning that you can find in this state a lot of capable educational institutions that prepare their students rigorously and that have highly trained teachers which are more than capable to pass along the information to their students.

Ok, so depending on what kind of road you want to follow in life, you can choose the field you want to specialize in. Of course, the biggest and most famous is the University of Alabama, followed randomly by Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University of Huntsville, University of South Alabama, Auburn University, Samford University, Troy University and University of North Alabama Athletics. Of course, there are other universities and colleges than these ones, you just need to look them up!

Accommodation in Alabama

Once you reached the state of Alabama, you need to decide where to settle. And you will need a roof on top of your head, naturally. Ok, then let's look at the prices that the state of Alabama has for accommodation.

In Birmingham you can find an apartment for 400 $ per month, in Gardendale at 500 $ per month, in Hoover at 700 $ per month, and so on. The best place and deal you can get is when you choose a studio. You will have your own place and you will not pay such a big sum of money if you stay for a long time in a hostel or hotel, nevertheless. You will not get bored. You can find in the state of Alabama places for all tastes, no matter how exigent you are.

Jobs in Alabama

Although I might sound right now like a mom or a dad, I am sure you know yourself that sooner of later you will have to get a job, due to the fact that you will need further money for school, accommodation, food and of course let's not forget fun!
