How to Bend Plastic PVC Pipe
- 1). Put on work gloves and goggles or safety glasses.
- 2). Cap one end of the PVC pipe. Secure with a length of duct tape, if necessary.
- 3). Fill the PVC pipe with sand, using a funnel to assist if necessary. Tap or shake the pipe to tamp down the sand as you fill the pipe.
- 4). Cap the other end of the pipe, securing with duct tape as necessary.
- 5). Place the object you are using as a bend mold, such as a bucket, on a flat surface. Lay the pipe across the area where the bend should be formed. For example, you would place the bucket on it side and use the curve as the mold. Center the pipe over the object.
- 6). Turn the heat gun on high. Hold the heat at least 1 inch away from the surface of the pipe, and move the heat around in small circles so that you do not scorch the pipe or heat one area too quickly.
- 7). Turn the pipe to heat evenly.
- 8). Push the pipe down onto the mold as the PVC softens. Continue heating and pushing until you get the desired bend.
- 9). Allow the pipe to cool before uncapping and draining sand.
