How to Make Cut-Out Designs in Lamp Shades
- 1). Clean a large window (wider than the lampshade material) that receives good light during the day. Use glass cleaner and a paper towel.
- 2). Tape the design pattern to the window.Position the design so you can reposition the lampshade easily if you repeat the design several times.
- 3). Tape the lampshade material to the window (face side toward the glass) over the design so the pattern is one inch from the bottom edge of the lampshade. Trace the design onto the inside of the lampshade material. Rotate the lampshade until all of the design is drawn onto it.
- 4). Remove the lampshade from the window and place it on the cutting mat. Cut out the shapes using a very sharp artists knife and make cuts as cleanly as possible.
- 5). Spray the inside of the lampshade with spray adhesive, and line it with rice paper or any translucent paper. Use a sheet larger than the lampshade and trim off the excess.
- 6). Follow the lampshade kit directions for how to assemble the rest of the shade.
