How to Convert Analog Video to DVD
- 1). Put the VHS player next to the computer. Plug it in for power. Eject the cassette tray. Put the VHS tape into the cassette tray. Close the cassette tray.
- 2). Plug one end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video output of the VHS player. Plug the left and right RCA connections from one end of the audio cable into the left and right RCA audio outputs of the VHS player.
- 3). Plug the other end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video input of a analog-to-DVD converter, for example, the Easy VHS to DVD converter that works for both Macs and PCs (see the link in Resources). Plug the left and right RCA connections at the other end of the audio cable into the left and right audio inputs of the analog-to-DVD converter. Plug the USB cable of the analog-to-DVD converter into a USB port on the computer.
- 4). Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Put the installation disc that comes with the analog-to-DVD converter onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray.
- 5). Double-click on the icon of the disc when it appears on the desktop. Double-click on the icon of the analog-to-DVD converter program that is inside of the window that appears. Follow the menu commands to install the analog-to-DVD converter program onto the computer's hard drive. Eject the disc when the installation is complete. Restart the PC.
- 6). Double-click on the analog-to-DVD converter program's icon to launch it. Select "S-Video" from the "Video" menu. Select "Stereo" from the "Audio" menu. Press the "Play" button on the VHS player to start the VHS tape playing. Press the "Record" button on the main screen of the analog-to-DVD converter program to start the program recording.
- 7). Press "Stop" on the main screen of the analog-to-DVD converter program when the VHS tape is done. Press the "Stop" button on the VHS player. Eject the VHS tape. Disconnect the cables from the VHS player, the analog-to-DVD converter and from the USB port of the computer.
- 8). Press the "Save" button on the main screen of the analog-to-DVD converter program. Name the digital file that is being made from the VHS tape in the "Name" column in the window that appears.
- 9). Click on the "Browse" button in the window. Navigate to the desktop of the computer. Click on "Save" to save the digital file to the desktop. Quit the analog-to-DVD converter program once the digital file has been saved.
- 1). Download a DVD burning program to the computer's desktop, for example, the free Burn program for the Mac or the free Easy CD DVD burner for a PC (see the link in "Resources" section). Double-click on the icon of the DVD burning program once it has fully downloaded. Follow the menu commands to install the DVD burning program onto the computer's hard drive. Restart the PC.
- 2). Double-click on the icon of the DVD burning program to launch it.
Select "Video-DVD" from the "Video" drop down menu on the DVD burning program's main screen. Select the DVD drive from the "Devices" drop down menu on the DVD burning program's main screen. - 3). Drag the digital file that was made from the VHS tape into the icon of the DVD burning program--the icon is either on the desktop or in the Dock to the left or at the bottom of the screen. Wait for the digital file to load into the DVD burning program.
- 4). Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Remove the analog-to-DVD installation disc. Put a blank recordable DVD onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray.
- 5). Select the "Burn" button on the DVD burning program's main screen. Name the DVD with the same name as the VHS tape in the "Name" column of the window that appears. Click on the "Burn" button to close the window.
Wait as the DVD burning program burns the DVD. Quit the DVD burning program once the DVD has been burned. Eject the DVD.
