How to Print a Document on an MFC-420CN Brother Printer When the Color Ink Is Out?
- 1). Close the error message window if there is currently a message on the screen warning that the color ink cartridges are empty. Navigate to your computer's "Start" menu and click the "Devices and Printers" icon. Right-click the "Brother MFC-420CN" entry and select "Properties."
- 2). Click the "Printing Preferences" button at the bottom of the window and navigate to the tab labeled "Advanced." Locate the "Color / Grayscale" heading near the top of the window.
- 3). Click the radio button labeled "Grayscale" next to the "Color / Grayscale" heading. Click "Apply" and "OK" to turn on black and white printing.
- 4). Return to the word processing program containing your text document and click "File" and "Print" to print the document without using the color cartridge.
