With unemployment steadily rising around the world, now might be a great time to stop waiting in the dole queue or going for interviews and start thinking about working for yourself.
There are so many opportunities out there for people to start a business of their own by looking for a gap in the market that isn't currently being filled.
Now understandably some of the services people are looking for like plumbing or building work will require you to have qualifications and experience you don't have already.
Well, how would you like a business of your own that requires minimal skills, minimal equipment and can still be a lucrative business you can run on your own? Why not become a window cleaner? Equipment To begin with of course, all you need is a bucket, some hot soapy water, a sponge and a squeegee.
Your client can give you some hot water and you will quickly make yourself a few pounds.
Once you have made a bit of money, you can start investing in more elaborate equipment like poles and jet washers, abseiling harnesses and telescopic squeegees.
There are many places online where you can buy cheap equipment to get you started off though.
Skills Essentially all you need is to be able to wash something.
You may not be very good at it at first and you may not get many repeat customers, but once you have done it a few times you will quickly get the hang of it.
Also, when you improve your equipment you will produce cleaner results too.
Transport Another great thing about window cleaning is that you don't need any transport to get to work.
You can just walk down your street asking neighbours if they want their windows cleaned and go from there, and when you start making money you can invest in a van to keep your equipment in and to help you to travel further afield.
You will then be able to hold the equipment needed to clean PVCU conservatories and other awkward UPVC windows that you couldn't previously manage.
Clients If you really want to turn this into a business you need to build a reputation for being good at what you do.
Try to get each of your clients to recommend you to a friend, hand out business cards when you can and get a website.
Your business should grow quickly and you will be able to start forgetting about the days you used to spend waiting for your dole money or sending out CVs.
