How to Make Your Own Lifting Stone

24
    • 1). Determine the size of stone you wish to make. Stones made of Portland cement will weigh about 140 lbs. per cubic foot. Stones with a circumference of 54 inches will weigh 216 lbs., and a 56-inch circumference stone will weigh roughly 240 lbs. A 58-inch round stone weighs 267 lbs., a 60-inch stone will come in at around 295 lbs. and a 62-inch stone should check in at 326 lbs.

    • 2). Set down the dropcloth in your designated work area and place the half-sheet of plywood on top of it.

    • 3). Inflate the exercise ball to the determined circumference and place it onto the plywood sheet.

    • 4). Mix the Plaster of Paris in the 5-gallon bucket to make a mold. To prevent the plaster from drying out while you work with it, mix only about half a bag of plaster at a time. When the plaster has a tacky consistency, liberally apply it all over the exercise ball, leaving about a 6-inch hole at the top of the exercise ball. Allow to thoroughly dry.

    • 5). Deflate the ball and remove it from the Plaster of Paris mold. Check the mold for any thin areas. Apply more plaster if needed over any thin spots and allow to dry.

    • 6). Mix one bag of construction sand with one bag of Portland cement in the wheelbarrow. Add the concrete bond strengthener and pour it into the mold. Tamp the cement down as you fill the mold and overfill slightly. Cover the top with a damp cloth and allow to cure for three to five days.

    • 7). Chip the Plaster of Paris off the stone with a chisel and hammer.

    • 8). Chisel or grind any high points until the stone is round.
