You also need to make sure your parakeet or cockatiel is getting the proper nutrition.
They need things like fruit and vegetables.
They will not survive on birdseed alone.

Are you in this pet thing for the duration? These birds can live longer that small dogs.
They will be around a long time if taken care of properly.
