How to Crochet a Closed Blanket

15
    • 1). Tie a slip knot 3 inches from the end of the yarn. Make a slip knot by crossing the thread 3 inches from the end and make a loop. Insert your thumb and forefinger through the loop. Pinch the long piece of yarn and pull it through the loop. Pull the 3-inch end tight to make a knot.

    • 2). Place the slip knot over the end of the crochet hook. Pull the long piece of yarn to adjust the loop so it slides freely on the shaft of the crochet hook. Chain the desired number required for the width of the crocheted closed blanket. For example, a size H crochet hook has a gauge of four stitches and four rows per inch. Figure the amount of chain stitches for a 36-inch-wide closed blanket by multiplying the length times the stitch count per inch. For this example, 36 times 4 equals 144 chain stitches.

    • 3). Flip the chain stitches so they point to the left, to the right if you are left handed. Single crochet across the length of the chain for a total of 144 stitches. A single crochet is made by inserting the tip of the crochet hook through the top loop of the second stitch from the crochet hook. Wrap the long yarn around the hook. Pull the loop through the top loop of the stitch. Two loops are now on the shaft of the crochet hook. Loop the long yarn around the hook. Pull the loop through the two loops on the crochet hook's shaft.

    • 4). Chain one stitch. Single crochet in the top of the second stitch and across the row for a total of 144 stitches. Repeat this step until the crocheted closed blanket is the desired length.

    • 5). Complete the last single crochet stitch. Cut the yarn approximately 3 inches from the end of the crochet hook. Wrap the cut end around the hook. Pull the yarn through the loop on the shaft of the crochet hook. Pull the end tight to form a knot.

    • 6). Weave the two 3-inch ends back and forth through the single crochet stitches. Cut off any excess.
