How to Replace Copper Pipes With PVC
- 1). Cut the defective portion of the copper pipe away with a hacksaw. Work to keep the cuts at a 90-degree angle to the wall of the copper pipe so they fit into the coupler easily.
- 2). Sand the ends of the cut pipe with sandpaper to remove any burrs that could prevent a proper seal.
- 3). Slide the couplers onto each end of the existing copper pipe so the couplers rest half on and half off the pipe. Shark bite or equivalent couplers allow for an easy slip-on connection. This means that you simply have to press the pipe into the coupler. When you pull on the coupler in an attempt to remove it, the teeth grip and seal around the pipe.
- 4). Measure the distance from the center of each coupler, and then cut a piece of PVC pipe to that length. Sand the burrs off the PVC pipe, using sandpaper.
- 5). Slide the PVC pipe into the shark bite or equivalent couplers. Pull on the coupler to sink the teeth and lock it in place.
