The United States of Planet Earth
Is it really possible to create a one world government that would be similar to the United States of America, only it would involve all nations of all the continents? If you'll recall the League of Nations failed, and the United Nations is having a rather tough time trying to unite the world in a common cause of humanity.
They're just far too many different cultures, religions, and ways of thinking.
There are far too many government structures as well.
There is communism, capitalism, socialism, and even anarchy.
We have democracies, republics, and even dictatorships.
On the religious front we have Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and that's just for the largest ones, as there are thousands of organized religions of the world, and different splinters and sects of each.
So many so that it's almost impossible to keep track of them.
Still, is the dream of a United States of Planet Earth, or a United Countries of Planet Earth even possible? It's an interesting long-term goal for humanity and human civilizations, but is it feasible? Not long ago, I was discussing this with an acquaintance of mine and we got into the topic of one of my theories that eventually we could have a federation of nations which in essence would run like a franchising company.
Where each government was similar in structure, had a somewhat similar set of rules, and yet had regional variation to account for culture and religion - would that be possible? It could be, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen within the next five decades, there's just too much diversity, too much anger, too much animosity, and too many countries willing to serve their self-interest without regard to the Western style win-win where we work together in free trade.
Nevertheless, I would submit to you that free trade amongst nations involved in commerce is the fastest way to peace.
