    • 1). Obtain a hunting license and any desired bonus game stamps. You may purchase bonus antlered deer stamps that will increase your allowance of antlered deer by one deer per stamp. Licenses and stamps are available from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and can be ordered online, over the phone or by mail.

    • 2). Use an air rifle to hunt in Maryland only if the rifle can generate at least 1,200 pounds of muzzle energy. Check with the gun manufacturer or the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to be sure that your rifle meets this requirement.

    • 3). Load your rifle with no more than eight rounds of ammunition, regardless of how much ammunition can fit into your ammunition clip. It is illegal to use a rifle loaded with more than eight rounds of ammunition in Maryland.

    • 4). Check that you are using soft-point expanding ammunition. All other types of rifle ammunition, including military, full-metal-jacketed, tracer and incendiary bullets are prohibited for hunting in Maryland.

    • 5). Ensure that you are hunting with your rifle in an approved area. Standard (breech-loading) rifles are prohibited in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Charles, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, St. Mary's and Talbot counties. Breech-loading rifles are prohibited in parts of Frederick and Worcester counties as well---check with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources before hunting with a rifle in these counties.
