Anti-Aging and Embracing It
The ever so popular song, 'Young & Beautiful' by Lana Del Rey asks the question, "will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?". So what's the answer? Aging is something not many like to talk about. It's more of a hush hush topic and if anyone dared to ask the coveted question "How old are you?" then they'd certainly be looked at like they had 10 heads. Of course, staying "fresh" and sharp can be a challenge, and there is no question that everyone always wants to look and feel their best. However, there are 2 sides to anti-aging battle: the internal side and the external side.
The internal side is hormonal as you age and also includes stress, fatigue, quality of life, etc. As you age, you become more tired and you realize that you no longer have the energy to do things that you once did. Stress becomes a daily part of your day since the older you get, the more likely you are to have more on your plate. Between a job, family, friends, household chores, and lack of hours in the day, stress and being tired go hand in hand.
The external side is purely all aesthetics. It's what people will notice on the outside. It's natural for your appearance to change when you age and especially normal for you skin to not be as tight and will therefore, sag. Many like to combat this with facelifts, botox or fillers. Cosmetics are popular among women who try to hide any blemish, spot, or wrinkle due to aging. When aging, your metabolism is likely to slow down which can explain weight gain. Both women and men take action against weight gain with fat reduction procedures. And although fat reduction can fall under both internal and external categories, there is no doubt that it's something that people visually notice.
But to answer Lana's questions: YES, and the answer should always be yes. Age is something that we must all come to embrace no matter how old we are. Whether we're 25, 40, or even 55 (all still great ages) there is no reason for us to not love the skin we're in, granted there are going to be times where we'll want to try every anti-aging tip in the book. Just be sure that you're comfortable with your age. You have to love yourself so own it and ROCK ON!
