How to Set Up an Iguana Cage

20
    • 1). Prepare the waste area. Place two layers of newspaper flat in the waste tray to catch the iguana's leavings. If your cage does not have a waste tray, line the bottom of the cage with newspaper. Replace the newspaper once per week to keep the habitat clean.

    • 2). Install a basking light to shine on the bottom level of the cage. Clip the light securely to the metal above the basking area. Place a large, flat rock beneath the basking light for your iguana to lie on, allowing for at least 12 inches of space between rock and light.

    • 3). Install a UVB light. Clip the light to the top of the cage with the light shining directly down. The UVB light should stretch the width of the cage to provide proper lighting. Keep the UVB light on a timer set to turn on at sunrise and turn off at sunset; this allows the iguana's internal clock to maintain balance.

    • 4). Secure a rope ladder between the top and bottom levels of the cage for climbing. The ladder should hang slightly loose for easier accessibility. Firmly secure both ends of the ladder to either side using the provided anchors.

    • 5). Place food and water bowls on the bottom level of the cage, opposite from the basking lamp. The bowls should have wide bases to prevent the iguana from knocking them over. Always make fresh food and water available to your iguana.
