Indoor Plant Types
- The bulb plant types include the amaryllis, which a flowering plant, and the tulip. Although the tulip is a spring flower, it may flower indoors.
- Joseph's coat and coleus are colorful indoor plant types. These are in the annual group and do very well indoors during the winter and outside during the summer. The Bird of Paradise is a tropical perennial that grows very well indoors, as does the Chinese evergreen. The geranium and the Japanese holly fern grow nicely indoors as a tabletop plant.
- One indoor shrub is the gardenia. It has large white flowers that make it an ideal plant if you want a sweet fragrance. The jasmine is a shrub with vines that climb. It can be grown indoors during the winter and outside during the summer. The fishtail palm grows very tall, but is a nice corner tree indoors. The bamboo palm and the Norfolk Island pine grow taller and fit nicely in front of windows or in corners.
- English ivy is just one of many vine plants that can be grown indoors. The green foliage cascades down the sides of the planter and makes a beautiful addition to other plants around it. Grape ivy and passionflower give the home a tropical feel and grow very well indoors.
- The Christmas cactus has shiny green leaves that grow during the fall and winter. The plant develops flowers at the end of the stems around Christmas time that last for about a month. The Easter cactus looks the same as the Christmas cactus, but it flowers at Easter time. There are over 40 varieties of cacti to grow indoors.
- Other known plants that are grown indoors are the African violet, which is a flowering plant, the arrowhead vine and the philodendron. There are over 100 other indoor plants that grow very well indoors with the proper light.
