Apprenticeships Are The Best Way To Learn The Trade Knowledge
How does a young person learn carpentry or electrical work if the trade is not his family business and he cannot learn it from his father or from the elders in the family? If a young person is interested in a particular trade that does not fall in the purview of his family business or trade then the only way he can learn all he needs to about the trade from a school that teaches the theory and practice of the trade and then by taking an apprenticeship under an experienced and knowledgeable tradesman.
If one wishes to be a carpenter then a carpentry course from a good trade school followed by a couple of carpentry apprenticeships under good carpenters would make one ready to pursue the trade successfully. Similarly if one wants to be able to work independently as an electrician, one needs to learn the basics from a trade school that offers a course in electrical wiring and allied subjects and then puts you on a couple of electrical apprenticeships under trained and skilled electricians.
The problem nowadays is finding individual carpenters or electricians who would want to take freshly graduated students from a trade school and give them carpentry apprenticeships or electrical apprenticeships. This problem is largely due to the fact that these days there are very few good carpenters who are independently working and who would like to train youngsters through carpentry apprenticeships. This is also because of changing life style; we no longer get custom furniture made but just go to a furniture shop and buy furniture ready-made. This ready-made furniture is made on a large scale in a factory or workshop where many automatic machines are used by workers with different skill sets. These furniture companies also gives carpentry apprenticeships that give limited experience in the field and also practical training in the use of new and faster carpentry machines that are used these days.
There are electrical companies who take up large contracts of electrical wiring and installation of electrical gadgets and appliances or who take up electrical wiring of large buildings or individual houses or factories which is actually done by workers trained in the required field. These companies can also take up fresh graduates from trade schools trained in the electrical trade and give them practical training through hands-on electrical apprenticeships.
The way the carpentry or electrical apprenticeships are carried out is different now but the same purpose of training newbies is served and the trade is taught as per todays requirement to them.
