Vessel Pop Up Sink Drain Installation Instructions

29

    Preparation

    • Assemble and install the drain pipe for your vessel sink. Use a P-trap for drain pipes that go through the wall and an S-trap for drain pipes that go through the floor. Be sure to use plenty of pipe glue on PVC pipes. Wrap the threads of metal drain pipes with Teflon tape before connecting them for a secure seal.

Some pop-up drains for vessel sinks have two rubber gaskets that seal the drain, and others have a bottom pipe that unscrews from the drain assembly for installation. For the rubber gasket type, unscrew the nut and remove the lower gasket. For the type with the bottom that unscrews, remove the lower part from the rest of the drain assembly.

    Installation

    • Place the top part of the drain through the sink drain hole from within the sink. Place plumber's putty around the underneath edge of the drain if required. Consult the installation instructions supplied with the drain to determine whether the plumber's putty is necessary. Install the rubber gasket and locknut from underneath the sink on the type of drain that has two rubber gaskets. Put the bottom part of the drain into the trap adapter underneath the sink.

Complete the drain assembly by tightening the nut. This part is easier if you have a helper to hold the drain steady from inside the sink while you tighten the nut. The drain on a recessed sink is tightened down onto the sink itself. On a counter top mounted vessel sink, the drain is tightened down onto the bottom of the counter. Tighten it until it is snug but do not over-tighten it or you may damage the sink or drain assembly. Complete the assembly by tightening down the locknut on the female trap adapter.

After the drain is assembled and installation is completed, turn on the water and let it run down the drain for a few minutes. Check the drain assembly for leaks.
