What Can Entrepreneurs (Internet Marketers in Particular) Learn From Julie & Julia?

21
1.
Follow your Passion.
Both Julie & Julia followed their passion.
Julia was encouraged by her husband & sister but not entirely by her dad.
That did not deter her from going after her dreams.
She refused to go for a beginner's lesson and waste her time, she wanted to play in the big league and she did not even know how to chop onions like a pro.
But she was not to be deterred and, in fact, became very competitive in her desire to prove to be worthy.
Similarly Julie was supported by her hubby but not by her mom and clearly not her boss.
But she used her passion as an escape from her depressing job and eventually that became her life.
What you do from 9 to 5 gives you a living but what you do after 5 gives you a life.
Entrepreneurs take note here, do what you love! They were both consumed with their desire to succeed in culinary art and that is all they thought about.
Take one step at a time towards realizing on a daily basis.
Commit to it, give yourself a time frame and tasks to be completed during that time frame.
2.
Find a Mentor that resonates with you.
In Julia, Julie found a mentor that she liked, she could identify with, who shared her passion and who inspired her through what she overcame.
So, as you are looking to start your own business online, choose your sponsor/mentor carefully, look for things that set that person apart: drive, determination, desire to stick it out no matter what, helpfulness, willingness to share valuable information...
are only a few characteristics to consider as you make your choice.
Julie never met her mentor but she connected with her through her book.
Who is your mentor? How are you connecting with them? As much as possible create opportunities to meet and discuss with your mentor.
3.
Have a stellar work ethic and stay true to yourself.
Julie's work ethic was remarkable- She cooked over 500 recipes in 365 days after a full days work at the office.
She cooked and blogged about her food experience on a daily basis.
She had a daily method of operation and she committed to it.
Entrepreneurs (Internet marketers in particular): what is your Daily Method of Operation (DMO)? What is your plan of action? How many lead generation activities are you doing on a daily basis? Are you holding training calls for your team? Are you consistent with your money making activities? 4.
Follow your DMO with or without results.
Julie did not deviate from her DMO even when she did not see results early on (in form of comments on her blog).
She stuck with her DMO, stayed faithful to her plan and was true to herself.
That eventually go her noticed, liked, and landed her an interview in the NY Times and eventually a book deal.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie not only because I love cooking (and eating) but also, and mostly, because I think that both women are living proof that following one's passion while inspiring others is the essence of life and entrepreneurship.
