Large Dog Supplies For a Growing Dog

15
So you have a young dog but you know when he is full-grown that he is going to be quite a bit bigger than he is now.
Do you want to build two sets of dog supplies for him, or more as he grows and you have to keep changing the supplies out? Or do you think it's best to just get what you need up front and have the right dog supplies for him from the beginning.
In many cases, getting the right large dog supplies up front is a really good idea.
Let's take a look at a couple of the items that make sense to buy.
If you have a dog that is indoors most of the time, he is going to be able to keep a dog bed for quite some time as he is not tracking in things like dirt and mud on that bed or making too much of a mess of it.
So, why would you start with a small dog bed and then have to keep buying new ones all the time.
Nice dog beds at large dog supplies stores can cost a lot of money.
Consider if you have to purchase one when he is a puppy, one when he is an adolescent and one as an adult.
That is three times the amount you are spending for a bed for the same dog.
Instead, why not start with a large bed the size your dog is going to be when he grows up when you first buy those dog supplies and you'll know that they'll fit your dog from here on out and give him a comfortable place to sleep.
Food and Water Bowls Food and water bows are going to need to fit your dog.
Now when your dog is a puppy he may have a tough time with large dog bowls, so you may have to start with puppy bowls.
But, once he gets big enough to get his head into a larger dog bowl, don't go to a middle size bowl, go straight to what you are going to need for your full grown dog.
First this will get him used to the bowls that are going to be his and his alone and second this will keep you from getting frustrated by having to keep adding food and water to those bowls as he grows and needs more to sustain him.
Leash and Harness/Collar The leash and collar or harness for your dog are also things that are going to have to grow with him but you will want to buy as few of these as possible.
When your dog is young you may be able to start with a medium collar or harness that is adjustable.
This way as he grows more and more you can adjust it open more and more until you have to go to the next size up.
This is a much better option than choosing those one-size collars that you are going to have change out regularly as large dogs grow very quickly from a puppy.
When it comes to a leash you want him on a short leash while he is a puppy.
But as he gets bigger you are going to want him to be able to wander around and get to know his territory.
Well, you can buy two leashes, start with one very short leash and then buy something more appropriate later, or start with an adjustable leash.
These are the kinds that usually have a plastic case that you hold on to and up to 25 ft or so of leash can come out of.
At any time you can push a button to stop the leash from rolling out and limit the amount of distance your dog has.
But as he gets older you can let more and more leash go and give him a little more room to enjoy himself.
