How to Install French Doors in a Closet
- 1). Take off the existing closet doors, if applicable. Sliding doors usually have a screw or release button at the top and bottom that will retract the rollers so you can pull the door out of the track. Remove any tracks or hinges that were used for the old doors.
- 2). Measure the long side of one French door to find the height of each hinge. Use this measurement to mark the corresponding spots on each side of the door jamb.
- 3). Use an electric drill to make holes for the four hinges according to your markings in Step 2. Attach the hinges to the door jambs with wood screws.
- 4). Hold one of the French doors up to the closet opening so that the teeth on the door's hinges line up with the teeth on the door jamb's hinges. Insert a hinge pin into each hinge to hold the two pieces together. Repeat this step to hang the other French door.
