Nitro Trucks - How to Get Started

13
Getting started your new hobby always takes a bit of commitment.
However, when exploring the world of gas powered RC trucks, safety should be paramount.
Nitro trucks can be slightly unpredictable when new and unused and it is vital that you follow the appropriate steps right from the start.
If you are new to nitro trucks and are unsure where to start, here is a step by step guide: 1.
Begin by placing your nitro truck upon a starter block.
This will prevent it from speeding off while you are trying to complete the initial stages.
2.
Take the time to tune your fuel tank properly.
You'll want your fuel intake to be running rich and consistently.
To make sure that your nitro trucks are operating smoothly with a rich fuel/air mixture, lower your intake of air and run the engine while it is fuel heavy.
3.
Once you've run your nitro trucks for a couple of minutes you will need to dial in the appropriate mix and adjust the speed/engine temperature and the idle needles in the carburetor.
If you've followed all the proper steps your exhaust should produce blue smoke.
4.
Now, to continue you'll need to remove the header from the engine of your truck.
Once you've removed the header, look in through the exhaust and spin the engine until the piston is positioned properly in the centre.
5.
Once you've positioned the pistons and prepared your fuel/air mixt, you'll need to cover the engine in foil to ensure it reaches a high enough temperature for burn-in.
6.
Allow your nitro trucks engine to run idle until it reaches 190 degrees.
This will help to expand the metals both in the engine and the pistons.
Once you've reached the required temperature, continue to run the engine for another three minutes before shutting it down and allowing it to cool completely.
7.
Repeat steps 1-6 another four times, making sure you let your truck's engine cool completely in-between running times.
8.
Once you've run the engine repeatedly, fill the fuel tank and allow your nitro truck to run through a full tank.
While the engine is running, double check to ensure that your piston position does not need adjustment.
9.
Run your truck's engine once more through a full tank of fuel, but this time make sure you set your throttle at a ¼ setting.
Once your truck has finished this final run, remove the foil form the engine and remove your truck form the starting block.
10.
Ok, starter's orders! Test your nitro truck's ability on different terrain making sure you note the steering, wheel alignment and exhaust.
And, they're off!
