How to Calculate Horsepower From a Quarter-Mile
- 1). Divide the elapsed time in seconds by 5.825. For example, if a 2,000-pound car takes 5.825 seconds to race a quarter mile, divide by 5.825 to get 1.0.
- 2). Cube this number by multiplying it by itself three times. Use the example problem:1.0 x1.0 x 1.0 = 1.0.
- 3). Divide the weight of the car by this number to find the amount of horsepower geenrated by the engine. For instance, the 2,000-pound car would have a horsepower of 2,000/1 = 2,000 horsepower.
