How to Texture Heavy Drywall

13
    • 1). Sand the surface of the drywall with 400-grit sandpaper to provide a suitable surface for the drywall plaster to grip.

    • 2). Wipe the surface of the drywall clean with a tack cloth.

    • 3). Apply a skim-coat of drywall plaster to the surface of the drywall with a trowel. Apply the plaster ¼-inch thick. Work to keep the plaster level and avoid lines that go across the wall. To do this, overlap each row of plaster you install by 50 percent. Allow approximately 20 minutes for the plaster to dry somewhat before you move on to the next step.

    • 4). Roll over the surface of the drywall plaster with a paint roller. The paint roller leaves behind a stone-like texture in the plaster. Do not press hard with the roller or it will just push the plaster around. When the roller cover fills up with plaster, replace it with a new one. Allow 24 to 48 hours drying time.
