7
There may be no better time of the year for any form of fishing than the fall of the year, and nowhere is this fact more prevalent than when fishing in rivers.
River fishing in the fall can be as productive as attempting to catch fish gets and in this article I will outline 3 tips that will help any angler experience more success when spending time on the river during the fall.
So, is river fishing any different in the fall than it is during other seasons of the year? It sure is, not only is the weather cooler, in many areas fish tend to feed more heavily during the fall than at other times of the year.
Not only this, but rivers tend to be much less crowded during the fall as outdoors people begin to focus on activities other than fishing.
All of these factors come together to create "the perfect storm" which is called fishing in the fall of the year.
The following tips will help you have a more enjoyable and successful trip on your next trip on the river, whether you are fishing with worms or similar live bait, trolling or casting a crank bait, or bottom fishing a slow moving river.
Add one or all of these river fishing tips to your fishing repertoire sooner, rather than later.
  • Pack a Beanie & Fishing Gloves - During The fall of the year the weather can get a bit cold and change quite quickly, so it's important that you are prepared.
Having a beanie and gloves can save a fishing trip if the weather is or becomes cold.
Most of your body heat is lost through your head, so a beanie will help to keep your entire body warm.
And fishing gloves or fingerless gloves if you need to "feel" your fishing line, are a Godsend in cool to cold weather.
Be prepared when on the river during the fall by carrying gloves and a beanie with you at all times.
  • Use Live Worms - Fishing with worms is an excellent fall fishing tactic.
This is especially true when you are wading and fishing a small to medium sized river.
Anytime that you are fishing with worms it is very important that the worms are presented in a natural manner.
This can be accomplished by rigging your worm on a set of gang hooks.
These unique fishing hooks are a must when you are fishing with worms.
  • Fish At The Best Times - This rule is true at all times of the year, but if you fish at the best times during the fall (meaning the times when the fish are the most active) you are all but guaranteed to catch more and bigger fish.
As a matter of fact I have personally caught more trophy trout when I was river fishing and fishing with worms during the fall than at any other time of the year.
The best way to determine "the best times" for fishing is by learning the simple ways in which the weather and moon impact fish behavior, and planning your trips accordingly.
The next time that you go river fishing in the fall, keep these tips in mind.
If you do you will have a much more comfortable and successful fishing trip, there's no doubt about it.
