As a Permanent US Resident, How Can I Bring My Wife to America?
- 1). Decide who you would like to immigrate to the U.S. from your family. If it is just your wife, you will need to prepare the marriage document and other identifying information. Children and other family members require other documentation proving your relationship.
- 2). Fill out form I-130 (Reference 3) online or at a local U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This is the Application for Alien Relative form and includes the pertinent information of your relationship, legal status and background information. You will need to include a birth or naturalization certificate or a copy of your passport to prove your citizenship, a passport-sized color photo of yourself and one of your spouse, and a fingerprint or biometric analysis. You will also need another document providing evidence for marriage including financial documentation or birth certificate of a child. Also, include your marriage certificate to prove your legal union.
- 3). Include the $420 fee (as of 2011) and your personal signature on the document, then submit it by mail including all the documents listed above to the following address:
USCIS
PO Box 804635
Chicago, IL 60680
The date when it is filed is the priority date. Wait for approval from the USCIS in the mail. In 2011, the backlog for approval was eight months, but may change. - 4). File for adjustment of your relative's status using Form I-485 online or from a local USCIS office. This is the form that they must complete themselves. They must also include several documents including a passport copy, two color photos and fingerprints and a $1,070 fee (if they are older than 79 than the fingerprints are not needed and the fee can be reduced by $85). Mail all the documents to the following address:
USCIS
PO Box 805887
Chicago, IL 60680 - 5). Wait another few months for final approval from the USCIS.
