How to Make Envelopes With String Closures
- 1). Decide what type and size envelope you want to make. Plan if you want the closure on the top or side of the envelope.
- 2). Print an envelope template from the Internet or make your own, using card stock. For your own, draw a rectangle slightly larger than the card that will go inside it. Draw two side flaps, a top flap and a bottom flap, all attached to the rectangle. Use a ruler to make straight lines.
- 3). Cut out your envelope and fold the flaps.
- 4). Glue one side flap to the other side flap. Glue the bottom flap over the side flaps. Leave the top flap open so you can insert your letter or card.
- 1). Cut two circles, about 3/4 inches in diameter, out of card stock.
- 2). Place one of the circles in the center of the envelope. Sew the circle to the envelope. From the inside of the envelope, push the needle up through the envelope and the circle and push it back through. Tie a square knot with the thread inside the envelope to keep the circle in place.
- 3). Place the second circle in the center of the top flap and sew it on in the same manner as the first button.
- 4). Cut 5 inches of twine or strong string. Wrap this around the top button and tie it with a square knot. You should now have two circles with a dangling string. You will use this string to wrap around both circles to close the envelope.
