Located along the southern edge of Switzerland, the city of Zermatt is a world famous resort town, even though it is only relatively small. Visitors come from all over the world to visit the town, as it sits at the base of many wonderful mountain peaks, including the tallest mountain in Switzerland - Monte Rosa, and the beautiful Matterhorn.

Of course, the main attractions in the city relate mainly to the mountains the surround this settlement. Skiing and mountaineering are very popular throughout the year. Travelling into the city by airplane is possible, but very expensive. It is probably best to head into Zermatt by train. Zermatt hotels are renowned for their high prices. However, when visitors arrive, they will be astounded at the views that can be seen from almost any room in the city.

There are plenty of things to see in the city of Zermatt, making it quite an attractive part of Switzerland for tourists. When it comes to relaxation, there are several interesting attractions in the town. One of the most visited places in Zermatt is the Matterhorn Museum, which is located in the Valaisan Village. It shows wonderful displays of mountaineering in the area, and many artifacts relating to the peaks around Zermatt.

Another magnificent place for tourists to visit is Forest Fun Park. Here, visitors can spend the day in the trees, using ropes and bridges to get from one place to the other. It is a great place to take the family, although most tourists that travel there are young adult couples looking for some adventure. Soar through the trees like a regular Tarzan, and experience the thrill of Forest Fun Park.

Of course, there are so many other recreational attractions to explore and enjoy while holidaying in Zermatt. Upon arrival, the Matterhorn will most probably be the first thing tourists see. Its beauty is unparalleled, and climbing this magnificent mountain is one of the major draw cards for the town of Zermatt. Skiing is a major part of the attraction. Each year, hundreds of thousands of skiers and snowboarders flock to the town in an attempt to conquer the almighty slopes of the Matterhorn's marvelous faces.

In addition to skiing, why not explore the peak of the Matterhorn without the downhill tools. Climbing this mountain has been done many times, but still it manages to bring many mountaineers to its base. It must be noted that the Matterhorn should only be climbed by experienced mountaineers.

Another of the 'big boppers'…well…actually, the 'biggest bopper' of Zermatt's natural attractions is Monte Rosa. It sits on the outskirts of Zermatt, and boasts one of the most stunning climbing routes in Switzerland. Mountain biking along some of the lower trails of this mountain is one of Zermatt's best summer attractions. However, for those visitors who jus like to sit, relax, and take in Mother Nature's awesome beauty, none makes this happen more than Monte Rosa.

Even though Zermatt is surrounded by sky-scratching mountain peaks, it also contains some smaller, but nonetheless breath-taking mountains, such as the Breithorn. Although it stands more than 4,000 metres high, Breithorn is much gently with its slopes, providing better skiing routes, hiking trails and climbing opportunities for less experienced adventurers.

One of the best attractions in Zermatt is the many cable cars and funiculars that travel up and down the mountains. One of the most commonly visited cars is the one leading to the top of and along the summit of Klein Matterhorn. It provides the highest scenic outlook in Europe. However, if trains are better suited to the traveller, then a train can be taken to the top of Mount Gornergrat. Visitors will be undoubtedly blown away with the views of Zermatt and surrounding Switzerland.
