How to Graft Wild Olive Trees
- 1). Select the budwood. Olive shoots that are one or two years old and roughly the diameter of a pencil are ideal.
- 2). Remove a bud from the budwood by carefully cutting around the shoot and pulling the bark slightly sideways.
- 3). Select the tree for grafting the patch. Make three incisions in the bark of the tree. The first incision should be at the top of the grafting point. The other two can be made simultaneously with the double-bladed budding knife to ensure a snug and accurate fit for the patch.
- 4). Place the patch into the bark of the tree. Insert the patch slowly to avoid damaging either plant.
- 5). Cover the entire graft with wax based budding tape and leave to mature.
