Safety Rep Training
- Safety representatives train other employees on ways to identify hazards. Hazard recognition is essential to maintaining a safe work environment, because it allows employees to understand what to avoid to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Safety rep training prepares employees for handling emergencies. Fire drills, for example, are interactive training activities that safety reps conduct so that staff members know how to evacuate a building. Safety reps also furnish employees with copies of a company's emergency readiness plan.
- Safety reps should conduct safety training at least annually. Training curriculum must be updated so that it meets OSHA's standards. Safety reps keep safety information current, because OSHA standards are subject to changes.
- Ongoing indirect training, such as publishing companywide safety tidbits, posting safety reminders and hosting safety games and activities, is an effective tool for ensuring employees are always safety-conscious.
