How to Fill Information Out on a Deposit Slip

    • 1). Identify all of the categories on the deposit slip. Each bank has its own type of deposit slip. Take a few moments to identify all of the different categories. There should be a place to enter the amounts of cash and checks, as well as a place to sign your name, and write your account number. There should also be a place to print your name legibly. All of the items will need to be completed before you can make your deposit. The deposit slip will indicate the deposit should be given to the name of the person on the account. It could also indicate the account number of the bank account.

    • 2). Fill out the deposit slip. If you are depositing cash, enter the amount of the cash in the appropriate space. You can also enter the amount of any coins that you have for deposit. Under the section for checks, write the dollar of amount of each check. List checks separately. Some deposit slips allow you to use the back if you have a large number of checks to list. If this is the case, bring your subtotal from the back and record it on the front of the deposit slip. You may have to use another deposit slip if there are too many checks. Any additional deposit slips will have to have all of your identification information as well. Add up all of your entries including cash and checks. These items should then be entered into the subtotal space. If you want to receive cash from the transaction you can enter the amount in the section under the subtotal labeled "cash back" or "less cash." Calculate your total deposit amount by subtracting the cash back you received from your subtotal. Enter this on the final line.

    • 3). Count any cash you receive. You want to make sure it's the right amount before you leave the teller window. Any mistakes can be cleared up and clarified right away. If you discover you don't have the right amount of money after leaving the counter, it may be difficult to prove.

    • 4). Get your copy of the deposit slip. The deposit slip will have two copies. The bank representative will keep one copy and give you the other. Often the bank keeps the original copy and you get the carbon copy. Check the balance on your deposit slip for accuracy. All transactions are run through the bank's computer system. After all transactions are complete the balance will be printed on your copy of the deposit slip.
