How to Cater a '70s Theme Party

17
    • 1). Invite your guests to double dip by breaking out the fondue pots. Fondue dinners had their heyday in the '70s. To cater your '70s party, visit thrift shops for fondue pots or borrow them from friends. Include a variety of bite-sized foods, such as bread cubes, hard vegetables such as carrots and celery, fruits such as strawberries and sliced bananas and other items. Set up a dipping buffet of fondue pots with oils, bubbling cheeses and melted chocolate, or put a small pot, along with skewers, at each table for guests to enjoy as they chat and reminisce about the days of disco.

    • 2). Lay out a spread of foods that first became popular in the 1970s but can still be found on grocery shelves. Give guests a choice of beverages, such as Snapple and Celestial Seasonings teas, Miller Lite beer, Perrier and Country Time lemonade. For guests who like their sweets, set up a dessert with Reese's Pieces, pints of Ben & Jerry's, Mrs. Field's Cookies and Yoplait yogurt. Other still-familiar foods born in the 1970s include Quaker Oats granola, Oodles of Noodles, Stove Top stuffing and McDonald's Egg McMuffins, according to the Food Timeline website.

    • 3). Send guests home with a sweet taste in their mouths by creating a disco ball cake. If you're new to baking, just use a traditional round cake pan and white icing. Then use a toothpick to draw the disco ball squares on the frosting. More experienced bakers have options such as using edible food spray to dye the icing silver or creating a disco ball overlay with fondant for a truly memorable dessert.
