How to Remove Tack Strips
- 1). Slide the flat pry end of the pry bar between the floor and the bottom of one end of the tack strip as far as possible. The pry bar has a curve, and the opposite end of the bar should be off the floor. Keep the flat part of the pry bar blade flat on the floor when prying to avoid gouging the floor.
- 2). Tap the end of the pry bar with a hammer to force the pry bar under the tack strip. The tack strip will begin to lift off the floor.
- 3). Pull the pry bar out and insert it under the middle of the tack strip. Tap the end of the pry bar to gently raise the tack strip.
- 4). Remove the pry bar and reinsert it under the opposite end of the tack strip. Once again tap the pry bar to lift the tack strip off the floor.
- 5). Place the claw of your hammer under the middle of the tack strip with the handle of the hammer pointing toward you. Roll the hammer head forward, lifting the complete tack strip off the floor.
- 6). Pull out any remaining nails in the floor with the hammer claw or a pair of pliers.
